

Hilary Chan
Hilary Chan hails from a musical family in Vancouver, BC. She has been playing violin since two-years-old. She studies with Carla Birston at the VSO School of Music. Hilary has participated in various masterclasses given by renowned musicians such as Simone Porter, Eugene Ducker, Boris Begelman, Oliver Charlier, Vadim Gluzman, The Viano String Quartet, Hilary Hahn and much more. In August 2021, Hilary was awarded the Regional Gold Medal for Level 10 Strings by the Royal Conservatory of Music. In May of 2023, her string quartet the Astral String Quartet was awarded first place in the BC Provincial Music Festival under the chamber category. She has also participated in summer music programs such as the Colburn Chamber intensive Program, and Le Domaine Forget de Charlevoix strings session. Hilary also conducts her school's strings ensemble, is a violist in the Astral String Quartet, and was former concertmaster in Intermezzo Strings from the VSO School of Music and the Vancouver Youth Philharmonic Orchestra. Hilary is currently enrolled in Sinfonietta Strings from the VSO School of Music. In addition to the violin, Hilary is an honor roll student who plays flute, viola, and piano. She also does sports like badminton and track and field. Hilary plays on a J.S Phillips (2021) violin which has origins based on Andrea Amati's work.
